The motivation of the new vocational training system among underprivileged students

The purpose of my thesis is to assess the motivations for further education in vocational training among primary school students (7th and 8th graders) in the context of the new vocational training system introduced in 2020. My main question is whether the restructured vocational training system provides students with a new perspective and additional motivation.

In the first part of the research, I present the structure of the vocational training system before and after 2020, and then I describe the results of the pre-2020 system based on publicly available data, including the number of applicants, graduates, and academic achievements.

In the second part, I analyze questionnaires filled out by students, which examine their motivations for further education, particularly focusing on disadvantaged students in two primary schools of Budapest.

The goal of my thesis is to provide a comprehensible comparison between the vocational training system before and after 2020 and present the results of the previous structure, which can serve as a foundation for evaluating the results achieved in the later, new system. Additionally, I aim to understand the students' motivations, changes in their motivations, and their arguments for or against further education. I also seek to explore the experiences and methods of teachers working in schools, which contribute to motivating the students.
